Malaysia Airlines Cadet Pilot Experience

Updated: Jan 20, 2020

The Malaysia Airlines Cadet Pilot Program probably needs no introduction. Like the AirAsia Cadet Pilot Program, the Malaysia Airlines program is a great way for those who wish to be an airline pilot. Furthermore, going through this program will basically guarantee you a job upon graduation from the flying school. Below is my experience going through the stages of this program.

Stage 1: Application

The application stage for the Malaysia Airlines program is relatively simple. Simply head to the Malaysia Airlines career website to apply for this program. The application normally opens in April and December each year. I applied for this program in December 2018. You will have to upload your CV, SPM results as well as any other documents as requested by Malaysia Airlines.

Stage 2: Assessment test

I received the email inviting me for the assessment test in January 2019. The test was held at the Malaysia Airlines Academy in Kelana Jaya. There are 3 parts to this assessment. The first is a 25 minutes English test, followed by a 30 minutes Mathematics test and subsequently a 35 minutes Physics test. The questions in this test are designed at SPM level. You may find some log (Additional Mathematics) questions in the Mathematics test. This test is in the multiple-choice questions format.

Stage 3: Interview

In less than a week, I received another email inviting me for the interview which was also held in Kelana Jaya. We were then split into 2 groups. I group would be interviewed in the morning and the other in the afternoon. I was interviewed by a captain and one HR personnel. I was given a few simple technical questions and was asked to explain them using the whiteboard behind of me. Dress well, be yourself and remain calm during this interview.

Stage 4: Psychometric Test

The psychometric test was held at the Malaysia Airlines Berhad Administration Building which is located near KLIA. We were required to bring our own laptops for this test. There are a few sections in this test. You will be allowed to practice before beginning each section. The first section is a personality test question. The other sections include;

1) Attention to detail: 3 sets of numbers are given and you have to identify if the numbers are unique or duplicate.

2) Business spelling: You will have to identify if a given word is spelt correctly or not. If the word was spelt incorrectly, then you must type the correct answer.

3) Verbal comprehension: You will have to identify the word which has a similar meaning to the given word.

4) Multitasking: You will have to do 2 things in this section. You will have to solve some Mathematics questions while replying to emails at the same time.

My journey with this program sadly ends here. All I can tell you about the next stages is that they are the psychomotor test (Simulator test) and a medical check-up. All the best to future applicants for this program. Remember, dress appropriately, be polite and be PUNCTUAl!
